In this piece of write up, I will share some of the steps and methods that can be helpful in recovering your Facebook account. If you do discover other ways which I didn’t include, please share in the comment section or click here to add your own write up.
If by any chance you notice someone gains access to your account, or creates an account to pretend to be you or someone else (hacked account), Facebook offers several automated ways to recover back your account, instead of ignoring and creating new account.
Most of these ways depend on the information you enter and validated when you registered your account. But if you did not register your account with valid information or have an outdated information, then chances are slim that you’ll be able to recover access to your account.
Facebook Account Recovery with Contact Details
Assuming you cannot access your Facebook account, simply launch your web browser, enter the Facebook.com in your address bar and visit the Facebook Recovery Page. On the page, type in your registered Facebook Account Recovery Phone Number or Email Address.
Make sure you have access to the email address or phone number entered. You may be able to choose between email or phone recovery.
Facebook Account Recovery Code Email
If you retrieve the code from your email address or phone number, input the code to reset your password successfully. A summary page of your profile is displayed and you can proceed from there, Recovering your Facebook account is successful.
Cannot Retrieve Facebook Recovery Code
Sometimes you think the code has not been sent from Facebook, but in many cases code enters your spam folder (using email method) or can be delayed abit.
Also, if you’re using phone number, make sure you can receive text messages from unknown senders.
If you still can’t receive any code from Facebook, click on Didn’t get a code? at the bottom-left corner of your screen. Click Security Code window, which will go back to the previous page, and you can try again.
Setting a New Password
After successful recovering of your account, you are advised to set a new password, this is recommended so as to block further unknown access to your account.
Facebook Account Recovery through Friends
This method is mostly required if either you lost access to your registered email address(es) or phone number(s), or if a hacker changed your information and you cannot access your account.
Well, Since Facebook developers are always at work and created a great platform for us, they also provided ways to get back your account by specifying a new valid email address or phone number of a friend, which will be used to contact you concerning your account recovery.
To do this step to retrieve your Facebook Account, simply click on this link https://www.facebook.com/recover/extended?no_access=1
at the bottom left of the reset password page. Provide your registered email or phone number
Ask trusted contacts for help to recover Facebook Account
If you have set up Trusted Contacts earlier, in the next step, ask the social network to help you recover. You will simply need to remember at least one full name of your Trusted Contacts to reveal others.
If you did not set up Trusted Contacts, don’t worry, you’ll be given an option to answer one of your security questions to allow you reset your password immediately. As an additional precaution, you will be patient for 24-hours before you can gain access to your account.
What to do if your Facebook account is hacked or sends out spam messages
Immediately you notice an unusual activity in your Facebook account, report your Facebook account as compromised.
Similar steps are taken here, but you will be able to use either a current or old Facebook password to recover your account. Facebook developers made a smart decision here, because a hacker may change your password or you actually forgot your password.
How to Confirm Your Identity With Facebook as a Last Resort to Recovering your Account
Facebook Account Recovery with ID
This method, unlike other automated methods, creates a direct contact to Facebook support itself.
To start this method, simple open your browser and enter https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/183000765122339
Upload your scanned ID (photo) in JPEG format. Then enter your registered email address or phone number associated with your Facebook account you wish to recover, click on Send to submit the information.
You will then send a mail to email@example.com and explain your situation. Include in the mail that you’ve already submitted your ID to prove your identity. Make sure not to attach your ID to the mail you’re about to send, since sending email isn’t a secure form of communication.
